COVID-19 Contact Tracing Scams
Contact tracing involves identifying people who have been contact with individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 (or other infectious diseases). Contact tracing is an important part in moving forward as more businesses and recreation sites reopen. Local health departments conduct contact tracing every day, but scammers posing as contact tracers are a threat. Please protect yourself.
Legitimate contact tracers may initially reach out by phone—but they should NEVER ask for, or demand your Social Security number, your bank account number, or any other financial information. If you receive a text or email; NEVER click on a link or respond to a text saying you have been exposed to COVID-19.

For residents of other states, please check with your local health department before providing any personal information to someone representing that they are doing contact tracing on behalf of a government entity.
